RE: Congratulatory Message from the St Hugh’s Past Students’ Association on the 60th Anniversary of The Queens School
It is a monumental achievement for an institution to celebrate sixty years of nurturing and producing many successful members of the Jamaican society. For this purpose, the St. Hugh’s High School Past Students’ Association extends warm congratulations to The Queens School which has delivered on its mandate that to provide a thorough education for its students.
Over time, The Queens School has emerged as one of Jamaica’s leading schools, providing an inspiring environment for girls to learn and mature, indeed the quality of leaders and outstanding citizens you have produced clearly demonstrates how well the school has met its mandate. We recognise that your achievement as the 1978 winners of the prestigious girls athletics championships was simply a stepping stone, as today the The Queens/ Grace Jackson Meet is the second largest track and field event in Jamaica. The Minister of Youth and Culture is a past student, no doubt inspiring future generations of queenly politicians.
Our two schools have much in common to share. The Queens and St Hugh’s we were founded as outreach missions of the church to provide quality education for girls, and both schools have produced leaders in the fields of politics and public service, education, entertainment the arts and sports, among many other areas.
Over the years we have developed a kindred relationship characterised by friendship and keen but harmless rivalry, and the St. Hugh’s High School Past Students’ Association is honoured to share your milestone with such great friends.
Looking onward, we encourage The Queens School and its past students to continue to have your mission be guided by God, and perpetuate the inculcation of excellence and distinction in the young women of our society. Forever and always, “virtute et sapientia floreat”, “may she flourish in virtue and wisdom”.
